10/27/24 Announcements
Today we finished the series that we have been doing “God of the Gaps”. This was based on my book that I wrote of the same title. We concluded this focus with a conversation about prayer. If you were not able to be with us in person today, you watch this full service at this link on our YouTube channel: Service Link
During my sermon today, I talked about a video that I said I would send in this email today. Click to watch the Coffee with Jesus video as you process how you incorporate listening into your practice of prayer.
Announcements from this week:
We had more than 200 people here Friday night for the dance that we hosted for Entrust Community Solutions. We were honored to be able to partner with them for such a fun event!
Historic Halloween will be this coming Thursday (on Halloween) evening from 4-7 PM here at the church. A big thank you to everyone who has given candy for this event, it has been shared with both the Yakima Valley School District and the West Valley School district as well as in the paper and online- so we anticipate a good turnout.
We could really use help on Wednesday afternoon to help set up and decorate. If you are available anytime between 2 – 8 PM and are willing to help, please stop by and help out! Any amount of time is appreciated.
Kaeren Foust’s will be giving a Piano Concert as a duet at Central Lutheran church at 6 PM tonight. All are welcome to attend. Central Lutheran is located at 1604 W Yakima Ave, Yakima, WA 98902
I will be launching a new Religious Trauma Support Group that will meet on the first and third Wednesdays of the month (which is the opposite of Coffee and Questions). This group will start on November 6th and will meet in the Fireside Room at 6:30 PM. You can learn more about this group on our website here.
Reminder that next Sunday, November 3rd is our regular monthly potluck after service! We hope that you will plan to stay and join us for this time of connection and good food.
Other Announcements:
We have had quite a few new families and individuals engaging here at Englewood over the last few months and we are excited to have you and happy that you are here. If you are new not only to Englewood, but to the Disciples of Christ as well- I have built an online Google classroom called Disciples 101 that will help you get to know what our denomination believes, how it is structured, and the history of this movement. You can find this class by clicking this link directly or from the About Us page of our website.
Carolyn has worked hard to create a traditional ofrenda that is used to in Hispanic cultures to celebrate the Dia de los muertos or the Day of the Dead. This is a time of honoring and celebrating the lives of those who have passed on. The ofrenda is put up at Englewood as a partnership with our Citizenship classes, for our Halloween decor and event, and be inclusive of the celebrations of many of our neighbors. If you are interested in learning more about the history and the traditions of Dia de los muertos click here.
If you would like to submit photos of your loved ones that you would like to be displayed on the ofrenda during this year’s celebration, you can bring a photo to the office or respond to this email with your picture, and we will print them off for you.
