3-2-25 Announcements

Good afternoon Englewood Community,

Today in our weekly worship service we began to prepare our hearts for the season of Lent which begins this Wednesday, March 5th. We talked about the instruction and the invitation of Jesus to Seek God First and the different ways that we can strive to seek God in the 40 days of Lent. If you were not able to attend service today in person, you can watch the recording from today on either Facebook or YouTube

The start of Lent is referred to as Ash Wednesday and while we are not having an Ash Wednesday service at Englewood, there are services being held in our community if you are interested in attending one. One such service will be at Wesely United Methodist Church on Wednesday at 7 PM.

We shared these announcements today in our service:

Today was our first Sunday of the month potluck after service. Thank you to all who brought food, set up, cleaned, up, and attended. It was a great time of fellowship and connection.

This afternoon at 4 PM, Canticus has a Vocal Concert at the church that all are welcome to attend.

40 Cans in 40 days starts this week. Consider participating by bringing one can of food for each of the 40 days of Lent. These can be brought each week and placed in the Fellowship Hall starting next Sunday where there will be boxes to gather our collective donations.  All the cans that come in will be donated to our local food banks to help our neighbors in need.

Our Religious Trauma support group will meet at 6:30 PM in the Fireside Room this Wednesday. If you have any questions about this group, please contact Christie or the office.

Other Announcements/Opportunities to be aware of:

Last week, our service was on the topic of Welcoming the Stranger. I want to share with you an opportunity to sign an Interfaith Statement on immigration that the Yakima Association of Faith Communities and the Yakima Immigration Response Network have created. This letter will be published later in March and sent to local elected officials. If you are interested, you can click here to read the text of the letter and digitally sign your name to the statement as a person of faith in our community.

Our Englewood March Newsletter was published this week and sent out by email. If you have not had a chance to read it, you can click here to open it online. We also have printed copies on the welcome desk or in the office.

Joys and Concerns:

These were the joys and concerns that were shared this week and asked to be shared with our wider faith community:

  • Earlier this week Karlene Jacobs fell in her home and broke her hip. Please be praying for her recovery and her family as they care for her during this time.

  • Please be praying for Connie Harwood who has been dealing with back issues and pain for the last few months.

  • Diane Smith shared that she had Dave experienced a joy this past week when they went to the Kiev Ballet’s performance of Swan Lake. She said that it was heartwarming to see the audience give the dancers such a wide welcome here in the valley.

If you have joys or concerns to share with our faith community or that you need support with, you can always email or fill out this online form on our website

** Take note that our clocks spring forward next Sunday, March 9th.**
