1/12/25 Announcements

Today was an exciting day at Englewood as we officially kicked off our new Wide Welcome Initiative and introduced our proposed Welcome Statement to our faith community during service. We also shared about some upcoming changes that will start next week to how we practice communion together in the future. If you were not able to join us in person or during the live stream of the service, you can watch the video back on either Facebook or YouTube by clicking on the links.

We had LOTS of announcements today during service, which is an exciting indicator of the many things that we have going on right now! Here are some of the important announcements to be aware of:

Volunteens meet for the first time this week and sorted all of the items that were donated in our reverse Advent bags in December. We shared pictures from their workday on our Facebook page yesterday, if you missed them you can see them here. You can learn more about our new VolunTeens program and their next projects by clicking here to visit our website.

Another great program that we are starting this month for middle and high school students is Cooperative Youth Group. This will be a group that meets once a month at either our building or at Wesley United Methodist Church. The first gathering will be on Sunday 1/26 at 4:30 PM at Wesley. Learn more about this new gathering space for teens by clicking here.

We will be participating in the MLK March on Monday 1/20. You can sign up by clicking here and more information will be emailed to you about our gathering plans for that day.

This coming Saturday, January 18th will be our next Camaraderie Breakfast at 8 AM. You can sign up to attend by clicking here.

In two weeks on 1-26 After Church we have two events:

The congregational Meeting immediately after service with one item to vote on- our budget.

Christie will be holding an information session in the Fireside room for anyone that is interested in learning about baptism.

There is a new community handbell group that will begin in February. They will be practicing at Wesley UMC. If you are interested in learning more about this group, Contact David Ramsey Warner by email david.ramseywarner@gmail.com

These were the prayer requests to be shared publicly this week:

  1. -Lois Shaap is healing well after her surgery and wants everyone to know that she misses them and looks forward to being back soon.

  1. -A concern was shared over our culture’s tendency to waste food and asked that we all prayerfully consider our stewardship of food in our lives.

  1. -A call to pray for the people in Los Angeles that are being impacted by the fires and those impacted would draw close to God in this time.

  1. -Prayers for Allan Thomlinson at Crescent Medical Center.

  1. -Prayers for Linda and Sam Lind whose brother is struggling with heart failure.

Several have asked how to support those impacted by the fires in California. You can give financially through the Disciples of Christ, Week of Compassion fund by clicking here and selecting the California Wildfire fund from the dropdown menu on the site.

We also announced two changes today.

The first was a change to how we will be doing communion. You can hear us talk about this announcement in our service today by clicking here.

The second we shared during our coffee hour and you can see what it was in the image below.

If you have questions or concerns about any of these changes, please reach out to me by email or phone and I would be happy to process them with you.

Finally, here is our calendar of events for all the things that we have going on this week at Englewood. I hope that you are each able to find places to connect and get involved with this community of faith.
